Upgrade installation

Note: When upgrading an existing Reader installation, it is NOT necessary to uninstall the previous Reader prior to installation.

In some previous versions, Acrobat eBook Reader was called Glassbook® Reader™. If you already have a version of the standard or Plus Glassbook Reader installed, you can install Acrobat eBook Reader 2.2. If you are upgrading from a 2.0 Plus Reader, your American Heritage Dictionary will be preserved and used in place of the Proximity dictionary in 2.2.

Follow these instructions to upgrade from Glassbook Reader and Acrobat eBook Reader 2.x to Acrobat eBook Reader 2.2:

1. Before you install Acrobat eBook Reader, ensure that you have not set Glassbook Reader to be the preferred viewer for PDF documents. Take the following steps:

(1) Start the Glassbook Reader.
(2) Click the Menu button and then click Preferences to display the Preferences dialog box.
(3) Clear the Use the Glassbook Reader as the Primary PDF Reader check box.
(4) Close the Preferences dialog box.
(5) Quit the Glassbook Reader.

2. Do not remove (uninstall) the Glassbook Reader or the earlier version of Acrobat eBook Reader.
3. Download the Acrobat eBook Reader and begin the installation program.
4. When the installation program asks in which directory to install the Acrobat eBook Reader, the directory where the earlier Reader is installed is the default choice. Accept this choice to install the Acrobat eBook Reader in the same directory where the earlier Reader is installed.
5. Complete the installation.

After you perform an upgrade installation, you may have problems in the following circumstances:

  • You installed the Acrobat eBook Reader when the Glassbook Reader was set to be the preferred viewer for PDF documents. You may have problems viewing PDF documents.
  • You installed the Acrobat eBook Reader after removing (uninstalling) the Glassbook Reader. You may not be able to access eBooks you purchased using the Glassbook Reader.
  • You installed the Acrobat eBook Reader in a directory that is different from the one where the Glassbook Reader is installed. You may not be able to access eBooks you purchased using the Glassbook Reader.
Visit the Acrobat eBook Reader customer support page for help with these problems.

Handling notes
After downloading a ".exe" file in Windows, double-click the ".exe" file to access the file's contents.
